Director, Wildlife Biology Program

The University of Montana College of Forestry and Conservation seeks a visionary leader with administrative, teaching, and research experience in wildlife biology to direct an interdisciplinary team of wildlife biology faculty that comprise one of the highest ranked programs in the country. This is a twelve month, tenure-track position as a Director of the Wildlife Biology Program in the Department of Ecosystem and Conservation Sciences (DECS) in the College of Forestry & Conservation (CFC). Employment may begin 1 July 2013.

Assistant Professor, Rangland Ecology and Management

The Department of Forest Management seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of Rangeland Ecology and Management who will contribute to the teaching, research, and service missions of the College of Forestry and Conservation at the University of Montana. This is a nine month, tenure-track position. Employment will begin in autumn 2013.

Summer field work opportunity -- Forest Ecology Lab

The University of Montana’s Forest Ecology Lab (http://www.cfc.umt.edu/forestecology/) seeks to hire field crew members for the summer of 2013 in the Blue Mountains of Oregon. Work will include:

  • Stem mapping of uncut, old growth ponderosa pine forests in two Research Natural Areas near John Day, Oregon.
  • Developing and refining a GPS based protocol for “quick mapping” of forest structure.
  • Learning about forest restoration prescription development using the data. This dataset will be used to inform restoration prescriptions and monitoring guidelines in Eastern Oregon.

 

Wilderness Field Leaders

UM's Wilderness Institute is hiring four field leaders for summer 2013. These positions are full-time from the end of May through August or early Sept. Monitor weed invasion, wilderness character, and recreation impacts in the Anacond-Pintler Wilderness Area and take groups of community volunteers on backpacking trips.
