Graduate School Options:

Bard College: Bard offers a Master’s of Science in Climate Science and Policy, which focuses on the interplay between climate science and solutions. The program trains future policy leaders to guide critical greenhouse gas mitigation and adaptation efforts, working in business, government, and in NGOs. Students develop specific expertise in the development and deployment to scale of clean energy technologies, and in the interaction of ecosystems, agriculture, and climate. Joint class sessions, field trips, guest lectures, and conferences expose students to the critical issues and practices of climate change science and policy.

University of Idaho: The Professional Science Master’s in Natural Resources and Environmental Science is an innovative interdisciplinary degree that prepares graduates for science careers in business, government, or nonprofit sectors, and focuses on sustainability science as it applies to natural resources and the environment. UI offers a specialty track in Climate Change in which the student completes 15 credits of focused climate change science curriculum, an internship, 12 credits in professional skills courses, 3 elective credits, and a non-thesis research and seminar.

Columbia University: Master's of Art in Climate and Society. Includes an Integrative Seminar: Managing Climate Variability and Adapting to Climate Change, a Summer Internship or Summer Research Project, and a Summer Seminar. “The need for professionals who understand the links between climate and society is acute, and grows ever more so as human activity alters the global atmosphere. The Columbia M.A. in Climate and Society gives you the knowledge and skills to meet this need.”

University of Maine: The Climate Change Institute offers an M.S. degree program with potential for a continuing Ph.D. program.  Students investigate human and global change, past, present and future. An interdisciplinary research unit that includes departments of Anthropology, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, History, and the School of Marine Sciences.  This program involves in depth documenting past and present and predicting future environmental changes and human cultures.

North Carolina State University has a Professional Science Master's degree in Climate Change and Society. The new program at NC State is designed to give students an appropriate background in climate change science and its implications for society to allow them to make informed policy and business decisions. The degree is appropriate for any student that plans a career in either the public or private sector, as climate change affects nearly every aspect of society. The PSM is designed so that those with a math or science background will have the opportunity to learn vital communications skills and the policy process, as well as those with a liberal arts or business background so they will gain fundamental knowledge of climate science.

Johns Hopkins University offers a Master of Science in Energy Policy and Climate. The program prepares the next generation of interdisciplinary professionals to address the challenges of climate change and sustainable energy systems. Graduates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the science related to a changing climate and global warming, knowledge of the impacts of climate change, vulnerability of natural systems and the built environment, and methods for adaptation. Graduates will also develop a comprehension of energy production, delivery, and consumption for both traditional systems and sustainable/renewable energy alternatives.
