Amur Tiger habitat conservation and predator-prey dynamics

Project Objectives

tigerThis is a multi-facted project involving Clay Miller as the MS student, Mark Hebblewhite as the main analyst, and Dale Miquelle as the lead WCS-Russian Biologist. We have been working together since 2008 focusing our research in 4 main areas;

1) Modeling tiger habitat within the Russian fareast as a function of human development and major prey species;

2) Predicting potential tiger habitat in the Changbaishan pltiger trackanning region incollaboration with WWF- China and Chinese biologists;

3) Predicting potential Amur leopard habitat for reintroduction in the Russian Far east, and

4) Developing GPS based models of kill-rates for Amur tigers - this latter project will be the focus ofincoming graduate student Clay Miller's MS thesis starting in Fall 2009.
