Nicky Phear coordinates and instructs in the Wilderness and Civilization program, a two-semester immersion program for undergraduates housed in the College of Forestry and Conservation. The program combines field studies of Montana’s wilderness and working landscapes with classes on campus that span ecology, policy, literature, and Native American Studies. Nicky has developed field education programs throughout the Rocky Mountain States, Mexico, and Canada, and has taught for the Wild Rockies Field Institute, Prescott College, and the Colorado Outward Bound School. Her classes explore the interface of wildland protection and community conservation. In addition to her interest in conservation education, she is an avid backcountry skier and cyclist.
