Forestry Curriculum

Given the University of Montana's geographic location, it would be difficult to find a better place in the United States to study natural resources and the environment. The College of Forestry and Conservation (originally called the School of Forestry) was founded in 1913 and has become nationally renowned for its strong educational programs that provide graduates with both technical competence and an understanding of the complex interrelationships between resource use and the quality of the human environment.
Students and faculty in the field
Faculty at the College of Forestry and Conservation are internationally recognized in their respective fields and committed to teaching excellence. The College has a low student-teacher ratio of 16:1, giving professors much closer contact with students than at many universities, large or small.

Five undergraduate degrees are offered by the College:

Resource Conservation

Forest Management

Recreation Management

Wildland Restoration

Wildlife Biology

The College also offers three minors:

Wildlife Biology

Wildland Restoration

Wilderness Studies

Course work for each of the above academic programs focuses on current management issues and students frequently observe and participate in actual management activities on nearby rivers, forests and grasslands. The College of Forestry and Conservation operates two remarkable properties including the Lubrecht Experimental Forest where students attend a special two-week field skills and measurements camp.
