The Graduate Students of the Department of Society and Conservation (aka SoCon Grads)

SoCon GradsOur mission is to provide a professional and social support network for College of Forestry and Conservation grad students while deepening the exchange between grad students, undergrads, and faculty. We want to make the transition to graduate studies easier for returning students and provide resources that enable success in grad school. The group seeks to provide a diversity of activities that may be professionally, socially, or service oriented.

Pasts events include the annual Fall Orientation Picnic for new students, a Holiday Party featuring a chili cook-off, Habitat for Humanity service days, a Spring Professional Development workshop, an overnight retreat/xc ski trip to Lubrecht Experimental Forest, and Spring Graduation Barbeque.

We also serve as liaison to the campus-wide Graduate Student Association and the Associated Students of UM. We hold meetings on an “as-needed” basis, typically once a month.

Come join us! We’re an open assemblage of CFC grad students, membership is not restricted solely to those from the SoCon Department, despite the name.
