New research published in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research from professor Andrew Larson shows that a recent forest restoration project on the Flathead National Forest successfully restored spatial elements of old-growth forests. Larson worked with a former UM graduate student and CFC research professor Chris Keyes to demonstrate how thinning treatments changed tree patterns. They also compared maps of tree locations after treatment to historical old-growth forest maps.
