Avian Science Center

The Avian Science Center provides the current and future generations of natural resource practitioners with the knowledge, education, and training to conserve natural resources effectively. We foster an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates service, research, and education while partnering with peer organizations and institutions. As a research-based center at the University of Montana, we conduct research to address key issues, including conserving biodiversity, sustaining healthy ecosystems to support human well-being, and integrated bird and natural resource conservation. Our research foundation uses decision theory, providing management alternatives to inform conservation priorities.

Our research is primarily externally funded, supporting undergraduate and graduate student research activities. Additionally, we provide numerous technical and professional development opportunities for university-level students, academics, and natural resource professionals locally and globally.
