Packing up at Joe's Garage for the trip in to the Ridgeway Hut
The destination, a long slog away
Mt Sneffels in the distance
Sparse snow down low forced us to walk the first 2 miles of the approach
It felt like spring, but there was plenty of snow up high. The hut sits just below treeline below the prominent peak (and avy chutes) in the middle of the photo

We covered the 6.5 miles to the hut in about 4 hours
Much of the time at the hut was spent looking out the window, hoping for snow...
And drinking hot drinks laced with Canadian Whiskey
After a long and tedious approach from the hut, we arrived at the ridge above the hut, with amazing views of Blaine Basin and the North Face of Mt. Sneffels

Blaine Basin & Mt. Sneffels
24 hours after leaving the cars, winter had returned
We arrived at the top to find solid conditions and deep powder

Convective storms rolled in and out of the area for several days, leaving plenty of light fluffy snow

My turn to find a line

Comparing notes after a LONG first run.
Back at the top again for another run, with winter setting in again
