Important Notes!

You must submit all forms and room and board payments to the Forestry office, FOR 109A


Equipment Needed

Necessary equipment items (YOU MUST HAVE THESE ITEMS!)

  • FOR200 StudentCalculator with trig functions
  • Clipboard or tatum
  • Transparent plastic ruler (10th in. graduations plus metric)
  • Pencils, pens, transparent tape, felt tip marking pens
  • Sleeping bag or blankets and linen
  • Boots and comfortable extra shoes
  • Field clothing and extra socks
  • Work gloves (hardhats are provided)
  • Jacket
  • Rain coat or poncho
  • Suitcase, foot locker, chest, duffle bag or pack (for storing personal gear)
  • Toilet articles, towels and first aid materials
  • Watch and Flashlight
  • Canteen/water bottle
  • Daypack or tote bag
  • Loose leaf notebook and one half ream paper (8 1/2 x 11)

Optional Items: (nice, but not necessary)

  • FOR 200 StudentSilva Ranger Type-15 Compass or equivalent
  • Binoculars
  • Radio
  • Camera
  • Cruiser's vest
  • Musical instruments
  • Phone Card
  • Pocket knife
  • Alarm clock
Miscellaneous rules:
  • No cars are to be brought to camp.
  • No "commuters" all students must live in camp.
  • Guns and stereo equipment should not be brought to camp.
  • No pets allowed; we have tried pets; they just don't fit in.
  • UM alcohol/drug guidelines are enforced at Camp.
  • Laundry may be sent out at the students’ expense (see camp coordinator)
  • Long distance calls by credit card or collect only. Buy a phone card!
  • There is no cell phone coverage at camp.
  • Smoking is not allowed inside any University facility.
  • Hard hats, gloves and boots are to be worn for all field exercises unless the faculty member in charge specifies otherwise.

University Equipment:

Each crew of three or four students will be issued certain equipment and tools. This equipment must be returned in good working order at the end of camp. Students will be charged for the cost of replacing lost or damaged equipment (this excludes normal wear and tear). An incomplete grade will be assigned if such payment becomes an issue.
