When hiring a consulting forester, it is important to check their credentials. Members of the Association of Consulting Foresters (ACF) are certified to have the proper forestry education and experience in providing independent forestry services to the public. Members are held to high standards of continuing education and a strict code of ethics. Conflicts of interest with regard to representing a landowner are forbidden. ACF maintains a list of accredited consulting foresters by state. The State of Montana DNRC forestry office also maintains a list of consulting foresters in Montana.
