Each summer CFC faculty and graduate students head out into the field to collect data and run research projects.
Here are a few things we’ll be doing this summer:
- Measuring trees and shrubs throughout the Northern Rockies and the Great Basin
- Studying fire behavior on prescribed fires in Florida
- Commanding fire teams on wildfires across the West
- Rafting the Blackfoot River
- Surveying small carnivores in the Brooks Range of Alaska
- Looking at bark beetle responses to stand treatments at the College’s Lubrecht Experimental Forest
- Eating fresh carrots from one of Missoula’s farmers’ markets
- Studying climate change interactions with ambrosia beetles and fungi in Africa
- Using remote cameras to study grizzly bears from Waterton to Jasper National Parks in Canada
- Enjoying a local brew from one of Missoula’s four local breweries
- Putting radio collars on elk calves in the southern Bitterroot mountains of Montana
