Each summer CFC faculty and graduate students head out into the field to collect data and run research projects.

Here are a few things we’ll be doing this summer:

• Measuring trees and shrubs throughout the Northern Rockies and the Great Basin
• Studying fire behavior on prescribed fires in Florida
• Commanding fire teams on wildfires across the West
• Rafting the Blackfoot River
• Surveying small carnivores in the Brooks Range of Alaska
• Looking at bark beetle responses to stand treatments at the College’s Lubrecht Experimental Forest
• Eating fresh carrots from one of Missoula’s farmers’ markets
• Studying climate change interactions with ambrosia beetles and fungi in Africa
• Using remote cameras to study grizzly bears from Waterton to Jasper National Parks in Canada
• Enjoying a local brew from one of Missoula’s four local breweries
• Putting radio collars on elk calves in the southern Bitterroot mountains of Montana
