"The GIS and cartography skills I acquired at the University of Montana have been instrumental to my career as a GIS analyst. I have been able to adapt and apply this core skill set to land use management plans and conservation science projects all over the world."
BS Forest Resource Management, 2014
“As I began to apply for permanent forestry positions, the consensus among potential employers was that proficiency in GIS is essential. The GIST Certificate program gave me the skillset to solve geo-spatial problems and helped differentiate me in the natural resources management job market.”
BA Environmental Studies and Geography, Expected 2015
"Conservation depends on people who can tell the story of a landscape. The GIS program gave me the tools to tell these stories visually. I learned to combine science with art, a process that fundamentally changed the way I communicate."
Rhodes Scholar Candidate
Our students have a proven record of placement with leading GIS organizations and companies. We work hard to secure regional internships with agencies such as the Forest Service, Fish and Wildlife, and the DNRC. Nationally, students have worked for the Nature Conservancy and the National Geographic Society. We strive to help students find meaningful careers, writing many letters of reference and acting as a conduit between employers and newly trained professionals.
