Ron Wakimoto 

Professor Ron Wakimoto was awarded the Biswell Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Fire Ecology in May. The award, named for fire ecologist Harold Biswell, was given during AFE's Large Fire Conference in Missoula. Wakimoto was one of three PhD students who studied under Biswell at the University of California-Berkeley to receive this honor. Wakimoto has taught at UM since 1982.

Carl Seielstad 

Professor Carl Seielstad was given the Paul Gleason Lead by Example Award from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group's Leadership subcommittee earlier this year. Seielstad was selected for his initiative and innovation in establishing the college's Wildland Fire program and practicum course. The award committtee noted that Seielstad's "visionary leadership offers students a unique opportunity."

Martin Nie 

Professor Martin Nie was appointed to the Planning Rule Advisory Committee by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in Aug. 2014. The committee provides guidance and recommendations on management of America's national forests for implementing the 2012 plannign rule. Nie joins 20 other members as the sole representative of the scientific community.
