UM helps NASA map soil moisture from space
UM's research lab NTSG is mapping daily the frozen versus thawed area of the Earth, and following the seasonal changes. Professor Steve Running first published this idea in 1990. UM professor John Kimball is a member of the SMAP Science team and is leading both the freeze/thaw measurement and a boreal/arctic carbon balance dataset. The College of Forestry and Conservation is the only natural resource college represented on the SMAP team.
