Summer Nelson

Resource Conservation, 1998Summer Nelson

Summer is currently in law school at the University of Montana and will be working with Earthjustice this summer on a variety of cases related to the environment and public lands. After graduating from in Resource Conservation, Summer worked for a variety of programs, including avian field research, wilderness therapy for teens, wilderness trail construction, ecological restoration and tree-planting, sustainable building, and organic farming. She also worked and volunteered with non-profit and grassroots organizations advocating for environmental and social justice. After witnessing the need for attorneys in these areas, both for defense of activists participating in demonstrations and for litigation to protect environmental and human rights, she decided to go to law school.

Resource Conservation provided Summer with an opportunity to study what she was most interested in-the natural world and our relationships in it. Resource Conservation led to work experiences that allowed her to be outdoors, building on her knowledge of natural resource use and protection. This knowledge and experience provide a foundation for her current work in environmental law.
