The AFMP is a teamwork-based organization, and our efforts benefit from the shared contributions of visiting scholars, graduate students, technicians, and volunteers. Interested in joining us?
We rely on volunteers! We have regrettably few paid opportunities, but we can provide opportunities for you to develop knowledge and skills while performing important work in great places. We provide training, but some related experience plus a measure of common sense are required. Contact AFMP Research Forester Tom Perry (see Personnel page) for information about current and anticipated opportunities.
We typically hire seasonal staff for summer field projects during March; for skilled and experienced candidates we pay competitive hourly wages. The number of positions varies by year and our needed skill sets vary according to project. Contact AFMP Research Forester Tom Perry (see Personnel page) for information about current and anticipated opportunities.
Work on an AFMP project while achieving your graduate degree and advancing your career goals at the University of Montana's College of Forestry and Conservation. But first, see a list of non-negotiable expectations for all graduate students working on AFMP projects (coming soon). We are primarily in the business of developing research and demonstration products, but those opportunities can be consistent with graduate study. Resources to support graduate research are scarce and are highly competitive; if you are inquiring about graduate opportunities with the AFMP please resist the urge to request them. If you are a top candidate and resources exist, you will be contacted with an offer.
The University of Montana is an ideal location for visiting scholars in the natural resource fields, and Missoula and the Rocky Mountains provide for a great family experience as well. If you are exploring plans for a sabbatical or similar research stay, and your work is consistent with ours, consider the AFMP and the University of Montana as your host institution. Contact the AFMP Director Chris Keyes to discuss your situation and interests.
