Salish Kootenai College Center for Tribal Research and Education in Ecosystem Sciences (TREES) partners with the BIA to provide Pathways internship opportunities to students that are majoring in forestry and an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe. This is a multiple year program that pays $5,000 per academic year toward tuition, provides a summer job in forestry with the BIA or a tribe, trainings in tribal silviculture and the guarantee of a conversion to a professional series job with the BIA or a tribe upon successful completion. Yellowstone National Park Native American Resource Management Internships

  • Native American Resource Management Internship (pdf) - Work in Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.  The majority of position duties are associated with vegetation management but may also include educating and managing visitors, data entry and database management, and forest and residential pest management.
  • Native American Archeology Program Internship (pdf) - Work with the Yellowstone National Park archeologist as part of a team responsible for inventory, monitoring, evaluation, and management of cultural resources within the park.

Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation Wilderness Ranger Internship

The SBFC Wilderness Ranger Intern program (.pdf) is a 14-week internship for military veterans and college students doing undergraduate or graduate work in conservation, resource management, wilderness, recreation or related fields. The internship offers wilderness skills training including the basics of trail maintenance, Wilderness First Responder, and Wilderness Act history and policy, followed by 12 weeks working in the Selway-Bitterroot and Frank Church Wilderness areas, with trained wilderness professionals, U.S. Forest Service managers and volunteers.
