The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research is surveying travelers on the Beartooth Highway this summer. The Beartooth All American Road national scenic byway takes travelers through alpine country with views of surrounding mountains as it traverses at 10,000 feet through the Beartooth Corridor of Montana and Wyoming.
ITRR’s survey will track the number of visitors on the highway, where they’re from and how long and how much money they’ll spend in the communities of Cody, Wyo. and Cooke City and Red Lodge, Mont. Results will be used by the Friends of the Beartooth All-American Road to calculate the highway’s value to the region.
Preliminary results from opening weekend (May 31-June 3) show that the majority of visitors are non-residents.
