Announcements

The Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit has designed a new wolf monitoring system called a “Howlbox” that is making local and national headlines. You can read about in the Missoulian and the New York Times.

"A Bid to Lure Wolves With a Digital Call of the Wild" New York Times 3/19/08

Special Requirements

Grade Point Average Requirement: Students must earn at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in all courses taken at The University of Montana to graduate with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology.

Experiential Learning Requirement: At least two (2) credits of hands-on experience, pass/no pass, is required for all Wildlife Biology Students.

What will count:

  • Forestry Measurements Camp (2 credits)
  • Hunter Creek Station (1 credit maximum regardless of how many times students participate)
  • Flathead Lake Biological Station courses that are substantially field-related that are not substituted for required courses, or any credits that are beyond credits offered in a similar, required class on the UM campus can be applied to the experiential learning requirement. For example, a 5-credit Bio Station Ecology of Mammals course would provide one credit toward the experiential learning requirement because it is one credit more than the 4-credit Mammology course here on campus.
  • BIOL 486, Field Techniques in Mammology (2 credits)
  • BIOL 495, Field Studies in Avian Biology (2 credits)
  • WBIO 441, Fisheries Field Methods (1 credit or more)
  • WBIO 398 or 498, Cooperative Educational Experience (1 credit or more)
  • WBIO 497 Senior Thesis (2 credits or more)

**Note: ALL EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLASSES MUST FIRST BE PREAPPROVED BY ADVISOR/INSTRUCTOR IN ORDER TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENT.
