Special Requirements

Grade Point Requirement

Students must earn at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in all courses taken at The University of Montana to graduate with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology.

Experiential Learning Requirement

At least two (2) credits of hands-on experience, (Credit/No Credit), is required for all Wildlife Biology students. 

What will count:

NOTE: ALL EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CLASSES MUST FIRST BE PRE-APPROVED BY YOUR ADVISOR/COURSE INSTRUCTOR IN ORDER TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENT.
   

1. Natural Resources Measurements Camp (2 credits)
2. WILD 374, Hunter Check Station (1 credit maximum, no matter how many times students participate).
3. Flathead Lake Biological Station courses that are substantially field-related that are not substituting for requiring courses, or any credits that are beyond the credits offered in a similar, required class on the UM campus can be applied to the experiential learning requirement.  For example, a 5-credit Bio Station Ecology of Mammals course would provide one credit toward the experiential learning requirement because it is one credit more than the 4-credit mammalogy course here on campus.
4. BIOO 486, Field Techniques in Mammalogy (2 credits).
5. BIOB 491, Field Studies in Avian Biology (2 credits).
6. WILD 398 or 498 (Internship) (1+ credit).
7. WILD 499 Thesis (2 credits or more)

Senior Thesis

A student enrolled for Senior Thesis (WILD 499) credit conducts independent study with the approval of a faculty advisor and committee.  Specific requirements exist for Senior Theses.
