The Avian Science Center provides natural resource practitioners, including current and the next generation, with the knowledge, education and training to effectively conserve natural resources. We foster an interdisciplinary approach that integrates service, research and education while partnering with peer organizations and institutions. As a research-based center at the University of Montana, we conduct research to address key issues, including conserving biodiversity, sustaining healthy ecosystems to support human well-being, and integrated bird and natural resource conservation. Our research is based on decision theory providing management alternatives to inform conservation priorities.
Our projects are primarily externally funded, supporting undergraduate and graduate student research activities and hands-on training opportunities along with staff members who assist and lead research activities.
